Here are instructions for backing up files and installing modifications.

Lost Children

Creating Backup: Creating a backup is VERY important. If anything goes wrong with a mod, or you decided you would like to remove all mods you have installed, the backup you created is the only way to do restore things to normal.

1)Go to "My Computer".
2)Go into your C drive.
3)Open the folder "Program Files".
4)Open the folder "Virtual Villagers-The Lost Children".
5)Create a new folder named "Backup".
6)Copy the "Images" folder, and paste it in the "Backup" folder.

Installing Modifications: Now that you have created a backup of your images, it is safe to install modifications.

1)Extract the mod using winrar
2)Go to the Game folder following the directions above.
3)Create a new folder called "Mods".
4)Move the folder with the mod you want to install to the "Mods" folder.
5)Copy the folder you just moved, and paste it into the Virtual Villagers folder.
6)In the Virtual Villagers folder, delete "Images".
7)Rename the folder with your mod to "Images". Make sure this is the exact same as the folder you just deleted. The folder will be case sensitive, meaning that capitalization does matter, and "images" is NOT the same as "Images". This will replace the original game images with your new modifications.

Installing Multiple Mods; Once you get the basics down, you can mix and match mods.

1)You cannot use multiple mods that change the same part of the game. For example, you cannot have both the floating heads mod with a mod to change clothes.
2)Open the folder containing one of the mods you want.
3)Find the specific file for that type of mod. Listed below are commonly used files
     Clothes/Bodies: female_actionsXX, female_bodiesXX, male_ actionsXX, male_bodiesXX **
     Heads/Hairstyles: female_heads, female_heads_old, male_heads, male_heads_old
     Items/Mushrooms: collectables
     **XX will be 00,01,02,10,11,12
4)Copy only the required files to the Images folder and replace the originals.

Using .RAR files

1)Click here to downlaod the WinRAR program.
2)Right Click on the .RAR file you downloaded
3)Choose "Extract to here" or "Extract to *file name*"
     Example, if you download "_igloo", choose "Extract to _igloo". This will creat a new folder called "_igloo", and put all the files insed that folder. "Extract to here" will extract the files to the same folder the .RAR file is in.
